How to Hang Curtains over Blinds in an Apartment

Vertical blinds can be a pain, especially if you live in an apartment that doesn’t allow you to take them down. And most landlords don't approve of making holes in the walls that comes with hanging traditional curtains. Making holes can put your security deposit at risk and not to mention the pain staking process of just getting the curtains hung. Fortunately there is an easy solution to install curtains over blinds that’s landlord approved.

One of the most popular products is called the “NoNo bracket.” It checks all of the boxes:

  1. It’s super easy to install

  2. Doesn’t require any holes in your walls

  3. No Leveling

  4. No measuring or eye balling

  5. No Drilling

…and it won’t take you long to hang them up and totally change the look of your space.

Now, we have to mention that most home decor enthusiast recommend hanging curtains very high and close to the ceiling. This would be ideal if you could make holes in the walls. Not the case for most renters or individuals not so handy with a drill. The NoNo Bracket is the quickest and easiest apartment living hack we’ve found.

These brackets come in different styles to fit your particular situation. There are outside mounted NoNo Brackets for vertical blinds…you know, the ones that stick out of the wall. These types of blinds are very common on sliding glass doors in almost every apartment or rental. There are inside mount brackets that come in a standard size, mini size for mini blinds, and XL for faux wood blinds. Be sure to check out their quick reference guide to ensure you purchase the correct brackets that match with the dimensions of your blind headrail.

The NoNo Brackets are available in various colors so be sure to get the color that matches the rod you desire. These brackets hold up to a one-inch diameter curtain rod. The rod is not included so you’ll have to purchase one separately, but the headache you’ll save yourself will be SOOOOO worth it. You can pick up an inexpensive curtain rod from places like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Ikea, HomeGoods, or even your local thrift store.

Place the brackets close to either end of the blind headrail and adjust the screws for a firm hold. Hang the curtains from the curtain rod, and then place the curtain rod in the bracket to complete your project.

…they should really call these brackets YES YES!
