Design Tips and Tricks for Creating a Productive Home Office

This past year whether we have wanted to or not, we have all done the work from home situation. While some of us already have home offices, this transition was difficult for most of us. Truth be, some of us still are having trouble with it! 

If you are one of those people, or someone who simply wants to improve their home office, then follow along with these design tips and tricks on turning your home office into a productive work area. 

Have a Separate Work Space

Are you still working at your kitchen table all day? STOP! Not only is it a hassle to set up and tear down your workstation each day before family dinner, but it is also very distracting. Having your own work space that is your office, whether a guest bedroom, backyard shed, or entire basement, is important to help you function better while working. When you enter that room, you know it is time for work!

Declutter your Space 

You might have heard it before, but a messy space equals a messy mind. Numerous research has shown the benefits of having a tidy home. It can reduce your stress levels, make you more focused, and help increase your productivity levels. Keep your home office tidy and free of clutter. Having organization systems, such as paper files, a pencil holder, and other office storage units is a great way to keep your desk top free of clutter. Since messes can accumulate overtime, make sure to maintain regular upkeep of tidying your home office. 

Make it Comfortable

One of the modifications that have been made in the corporate office world within the past 10 years is the focus on making the workspace comfortable. Since companies understand this is important for their employees, why not translate this into the home office for yourself. Get certain equipment that will make the WFH a comfier experience, such as a nice chair, sit-to-stand desk, and dual monitors. These comforts can make the long work day more manageable and relaxing. 

Have a Whiteboard or Corkboard

Even though many of us keep notes and calendars on our computers, having a physical whiteboard or corkboard is important in keeping our productivity levels up. Often times, we have our calendars closed on our computers, but having a visual memo board that we see in our spaces can help remind us of the tasks and to dos that we have upcoming. There are also so many stylish boards out there, so you can find one that works with your room.
